Hurricane Irma has left a path of destruction in Florida and across the Caribbean. Raging winds and record storm surge devastated the region, turning once calm streets into churning rivers. Irma was the most intense Atlantic hurricane to strike the United States since Katrina in 2005. This project is focusing on providing long-term funding, taking advantage of advancements in digital currency technology, to rebuild Florida and the other regions devastated by the Hurricane.
Winds of over 180 mph ripped apart thousands of homes and businesses. Damage is severe and wide spread, affecting millions. Lives have been turned upside down and many families have been displaced. The affected areas need immediate relief as well as long-term funding to begin the difficult and costly rebuilding process.
We plan to harness the spectacular growth of Bitcoin, BitShares, and other digital currencies, to rebuild Florida, Caribbean Islands and the region devastated by Hurricane Irma.
A million dollars donated in Bitcoins five years ago at $4 are worth a billion dollars at today's $4000+ prices.
What if we could find another coin like this and raise a million dollars for Irma victims?
BitShares has developed a way to create digital currency endowments that can leverage industry growth to multiply a single donation into a steady stream of those donations that can last for years. We will not be taking fees out; all of your donation will be put into the endowment fund to help Irma victims.
Not only is there a plan for future funding but making a donation on a decentralized platform takes all of the Red Cross red tape out of it. Yes, your donation goes to creating real funds going to the real problem rather than your funds going to take care of “administrative” fees.
The full magnitude of devastation left by the hurricane is still sinking in, but it is clear that the recovery will take years. Long after the news media has moved on to the next crisis, there will remain people in desperate need trying to rebuild their lives. Donations that get the early crisis under control are important, but donations that build endowments that keep on giving for many years are even more important. Digital endowments based on the growth of the Bitcoin industry offer a unique way to accumulate funds large enough to fix everything.
This way, we can keep funding the reconstruction of the affected areas long after Irma has faded from the news.
